The Five Factors for Entrepreneurial Success (Part Three – Identifying Your Target Market)

Success Factor #3
Identifying Your Target Market

To build a solid foundation for your business, you must first identify your typical or desired customer, and tailor your marketing message accordingly.

It never ceases to amaze me, when internationally known network marketing companies secure my consulting services, to find their answer to the question, “Who are your targeted customers,” to be something like, “Anyone with a pulse…” or something general like “baby-boomers”.

I think that a lot of time people go for these general answers, because they think that identifying a target market means that you exclude someone else, who might not fit your criteria for “targeted customers”. And that’s simply not how it works.

Identifying your target market is about working smarter. It’s about making sure that you know who will be most likely to be interested in your product or services, and then deciding if you’re interested in working with that kind of customer.

For example, if you find obesity repulsive, and find that you just don’t like overweight people, you probably don’t want to get involved in a weight loss company; but if, on the other hand, your desire to help people extends to wanting to help those who suffer from weight problems, and especially if someone you love has struggled with obesity, then a weight control company might be a perfect fit for you.

The Five Factors for Entrepreneurial Success (Part Two – The Training System)

Yesterday, we talked about the first of the Five Factors for Entrepreneurial Success that my mentor Larry Thompson shared with us back in 1981… The Vehicle.

Today, we’re going to take a look at something that is often completely overlooked, when folks consider a home business opportunity, and that is the Training System.

Success Factor #2
The Training System

Can you imagine starting your first job, working for a brand new technology company, and making a proprietary piece of software, but never getting any training whatsoever, and just being placed in an office with a computer and a desk, and being told to “get to work”?

Of course not! So when you’re getting ready to begin a venture with a new company, you should expect nothing less than the most comprehensive, thorough and user-friendly system for training and supporting you and your team.

Each company will promise you “great support and training”, but the simple fact is that very few actually offer it. And do you know why? Ninety-four percent of most companies are made up of people who just jumped from their last company into the next one, and just sent a letter out to their people from that previous business, telling them to follow them to this new “pot of gold”.

Those “heavy hitters” have been doing this from company to company for years (sometimes decades) and no longer have the first clue about how to grow a real business.

Five Critical Factors for Success

I’ll never forget the first time I sat in a room with both of my two business mentors, the late Mr. Jim Rohn and Lawrence Thompson, at the very same time.

Man, was I stoked!

There I was, eighteen years old, and I’d just received my first monthly bonus cheque of $11,000. I’d had the opportunity to get up in front of about 500 people in a hotel ballroom, and shared my personal health testimonial with people I’d never met before, and shared my enthusiasm for working with that company “for the rest of my life”.

And I really believed that was what I wanted. But then Larry Thompson took the stage and began to teach us about the five factors that would guarantee the success of any entrepreneurial endeavor, and my entire belief system was transformed.

Yeah… That was me, at nineteen… stop laughing! LOL!

You see, I am quite sure that Larry’s intention was to demonstrate for us that our company had all five of these success factors, and indeed it did; but I was listening to him at what I now consider to be a “higher level of thinking”, and I realised that what he was talking about was the five things that any and every company could do to ensure their success. And that realisation opened the doors for me to a lifetime of incredible opportunity, because realised the one thing I needed to ultimately make any company work… was myself.

But I want to share these success factors with you today, because I think it’s important to understand that even though you’re ultimately the one who will make or break anything you attempt to create, it’s always a lot easier to achieve something great, when there are five other pieces of the puzzle in place to support your efforts.

Am I right?

So here they are…

Creating a Six & Seven-figure Income? How Did We Do It?

People often ask how I was able to grow a six and seven figure income with our first two companies in such a relatively short time.

The answer is that I saw my goal with laser focus, understood what needed to be done each day to move me closer to it, and took action.

The critical ingredient is getting off your butt, and taking action every single day. It’s as simple as that. That doesn’t mean working at it one day, and then doing nothing for the next three or four.

It doesn’t mean using the excuse that you have to work… or that you’re in school… and there just isn’t time. It doesn’t mean you try for three or four weeks, and then just quit, because you’re “too busy with everything else”.

It means every day, you do at least one thing to move you closer to that goal.

“A lot of people have ideas,” writes Nolan Bushnell, “but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. But today. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer.”

When Jim Rohn and Lawrence Thompson sat us down in that hotel room, back in 1981, they didn’t say, “Let’s give this a try for a couple months.” They said, “We’re going to become wealthy, and here’s what we’re going to do for the next 90-days to get us to our first goal.”

And that’s exactly what we did.

Better Content Syndication with Tribe Pro and ICP? Really?

If you’ve been paying any attention to business journals, and especially to the discussion on technology lists, you’re probably dizzy and confused, when it comes to keeping up with the ever-changing criteria and algorithms used by Google to establish search engine ranking.

For years, the conventional wisdom was that if you created enough dynamic content by maintaining a blog, and posting on your social networks, you could reasonable expect to be ranked high in the search engines. But then, like everything else, a few clowns started to abuse that system, and so it no longer held the importance it once held.

Today, and for much of the past six months, Google places more siginificance on the syndication and social media interaction generated by your content, than it does upon the content alone. Things like social value, genuine back linking, and relevance began to become even more important than they were just a year ago.

That was why I accepted the invitation of a few of my former mentoring students, who graduated to become six and seven-figure income earners themselves, using my principles and systems to grow several incredible home-based businesses, to start a new mentoring class.

In fact, of the 358,000 men and women I’ve mentored in the direct sales industry, seven are millionaires and top producers with some of the most successful companies in our industry today. Twenty-nine earn a high six figure income, and a couple thousand (that I know of) are earning between $5K to $11K per month. So I willingly agreed.

Never a Better Time to Start Your Own Business

It’s always a good time to break free from the rat race, and to resolve to make your mark on society in a way that is totally reflective of who you are; but experts are now telling us that record numbers of people are leaving their jobs now, more confident that the economy is improving under better leadership, and fairly certain that the country won’t fall into the hands of the morally bankrupt and inept.

Take a look at this article:

So there is no better time to start your own business, or try your hand at a fun, simple and easy to master affiliate program, In the past month, we’ve actually helped two of our clients get started in a remarkably stable, growth-oriented wellness program, which allowed them to put $800 in their pocket their very first month, with just a total of twenty customers!

And after all of the television publicity, we’ve been getting calls every day from stay-at-home moms, wanting to know if we can help them start a profitable mobile spa business for about $35 a week! And when we show them how to take advantage of certain promotional programs going on right now, that will allow them to get up and running with over $450 in products and inventory for under $150, they LOVE IT!

Whatever your passion is, there has never been a better time to roll up your sleeves and pursue it!
